anneka-paster_2793514aWe are delighted that Anneka Rice, star of the 90’s BBC hit series ‘Challenge Anneka’ and former TVB/RTHK presenter has agreed to be ‘In Conversation
With’ with former HK Society Chairman (and erstwhile HK contemporary), Karen ‘KP’ Penlington Luard, continuing the lively informal format so successfully initiated by the late Sir David Tang.

Anneka had been working as an intern trainee for the BBC World Service when she moved to Hong Kong at just 19 years old – she secured a job there presenting the news on English language television station TVB Pearl and subsequently a separate drivetime hour on RTHK. After three years, she returned to the UK and a stellar career in broadcasting, highlighted by the massively popular ‘Challenge Anneka’ TV series. She returned to HK in 1993 to present ‘Passport to HK’, a one-off episode where two couples compete to win a stay in the city.

She currently presents The Happening on Radio 2 on Friday nights and is the regular stand-in for Jonathan Ross on The Arts Show. She has recently been on Hunted, Harry Hill Alien Fun Capsule, hosted the Radio 2 Arts Show and Radio 4 My Teenage Diaries.

Winnie LawAs in previous years, the Society will be featuring an item of Hong Kong culture year and we are thrilled that violinist Winnie Law will be playing for us. Born in Hong Kong, Winnie began playing the violin at age 6 under the tutelage of Li Wing Shun and Michael Ma, Head of Strings at the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts. In 2008, she received the Diploma of The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music, and the Licentiate of Trinity College London later in 2011. Throughout high school, Winnie served as the concertmaster of the Senior Orchestra for the Hong Kong Metropolitan Youth Orchestra. In 2013, she was given full scholarship to tour with MYO to Vienna, Austria, and had the privilege of performing in Musikverein. In the same year, Winnie received the Howard Hanson Scholarship funded by the prestigious Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. In 2016, she was selected by the school to perform with Eastman Philharmonia at Alice Tully Hall in Lincoln Center, New York, featuring the renowned soprano Renée Fleming. Under the tutelage of Oleh Krysa and Cyrus Forough, she received her Bachelor of Music degree from Eastman School of Music in 2017 with distinction and was a member of the Dean’s List. Winnie is currently pursuing her Master of Performance degree at the Royal College of Music in London, studying with Ani Schnarch.
