Royal OakLast year’s Gloucestershire lunch was held in October, and in spite of some flu-related absences, was a full and lively event. This year we revert to July, and have again booked the (now traditional) Pavilion function room at The Royal Oak Inn. For those who have not been there, The Royal Oak is situated in the delightful village of Prestbury, on the outskirts of Cheltenham. It is convenient, pretty, friendly and the food (and beer) is often recommended. Particularly pleasant in summer, with horse racing and the Jazz Festival just over, and the Cheltenham Music Festival just starting!

All members who live anywhere within reach are very cordially invited to attend – and an increasing number come from outside Gloucestershire. All are strongly encouraged to bring with them any friends with connections to Hong Kong. Such friends who come to the lunch will be entitled to an attractive introductory membership rate (£45/couple through to December 2019 if under 60; £30 if over) if they join the Society before the lunch – as well as the lower rate for the lunch itself. As the membership year runs from 1st Jan – 31st Dec, this will give at least 5 months free membership (depending on date of sign-up).

Included in the cost of the event will be canapés and a welcoming glass of bubbly, a two-course meal, with tea or coffee to follow. There will be a speaker and lots of opportunities to mingle. It has proved possible in the last couple of years to include a bottle of wine per table in the price too – what an offer! A cash bar for other drinks will be available throughout.

Alastair Scott is again organising this event on behalf of the Society, and bookings and questions as to details, should be directed to him. Please respond to Alastair by email ( by end-April if you hope and expect to be able to attend. No absolute necessity to send payment by then, but cheques will not actually be paid in until much nearer the time, so there is no downside to so doing (for address, see booking form below). Alastair will be in touch in May with those who have responded positively to seek confirmations and ask you to make menu choices

We look forward very much to seeing you.
