Date: 19th June 2011

Location: London Regatta Centre, Dockside Road E16 2QT (Yi-Ban Chinese Restaurant)
Time: 10:00 – 17:00

This year London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival will be held on 19th June 2011 Sunday and The Hong Kong Society is once again planning to compete with on boat. We are looking for enthusiastic rower/oarsmen to join our team.

This summer London Docklands will be full of colourful flags and sounds of the rhythmic drumming from teams of competing dragon boats. Over 10,000 spectators are anticipated and over 30 dragon boats are expected to compete. Teams will race at least three times along a course of 200m. Boats with the fastest times go through to the final stages and trophies will be awarded to the top three teams. For those not taking part in the races, there is a free programme of cultural performances; live music, food and children’s activities for all the family to enjoy. There will be live staged entertainment by Spectrum Radio throughout the day which will feature Kung Fu performances, live music and lion dancing. There are also stalls for food and drinks, as well as cultural stalls such as Chinese calligraphy, Chinese arts and crafts, games and company promotions. There will be plenty of things for children as well, such as ‘Bouncy Castle’ and ‘Chinese Face Painting’.

In addition to the dragon boat racing, this festival raises money for London Chinese community organisations. A return ticket to Hong Kong and various cash prizes are among the great prizes for the raffle tickets which will be on sale on the day.

The London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival is organised by the London Chinatown Lions Club and The Hong Kong Executives Club. The Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office in London is the principal sponsor of the London Hong Kong Dragon Boat Festival 2011.
